Fly olathe skies

Go fly a kite! Really! You’ll be in good company near Shelter 1 at Olathe’s Heritage Park (16050 Pflumm), where the Kansas City Kite Club gathers on the second Sunday of the month to send swaths of brightly colored fabric sailing through the skies. Depending on which kite masters show up, the wind could carry an elaborate, six-sided rokkaku kite or a tricksy multi-line kite, ducking and diving as it might in a competition. Don’t be nervous about sending up the flimsy, diamond-shaped, plastic-framed kite you picked up at the dollar store, though. Today’s 1 p.m. Second Sunday Fly is open to anyone. The Kite Club just wants to share the love of its favorite 2,000-year-old form of artful recreation. To learn more about the organization and today’s three-hour get-together, see kckiteclub.org.
