Flier of the Week: Super-Nerd Night: Rise of the Geeks

There are ladies’ nights, “family” nights, and DJ nights devoted to every genre imaginable (thrift store 45s, anyone?). However, the geeks and nerds are relegated to comic shops, basements, and the living rooms of the world. When do they get a chance to have their night out?

Three weeks from today, actually. On October 26, Lawrence’s Astrokitty Comics and Gameguy present Super-Nerd Night: Rise of the Geeks at the Jackpot. As they say:

For a low cover price, you can gain access to a world of geek-centric drink specials, bar-side old school video-gaming, a Nintendo DS multi-player “lounge”, multiple Magic:TG events, Drink & Draw areas, Street Fighter IV big-screen tourney, and all set to a backdrop of anime, cartoons, and chiptunes! Prizes will be awarded for the Magic events, the SF4 tourney, a Drink & Draw theme contest, and best video-game costume and best comic book costume.

This is for people who like comics, video games, gaming in general, cosplay, and all things usually relegated to mockery and derision. The lovely flier you see there was drawn by Joel Pfannenstiel, proprietor of Astrokitty. Simple, effective, and some nice watercolor work. Reminds me a lot of the Replay concert calendars Molly Murphy used to do. It could stand to have a date and time on it, but the damn thing looks so nice, I’m willing to let it slide. Hell, Apocalypse looks so damn cute, I want to take him home.
