First-Friday Hit List

• The storied career of Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh encompasses pop stardom and score work for TV, films and video games. The man’s creative endeavors also include visual work. Famously myopic to the point of blindness, Mothersbaugh began drawing as a child shortly after receiving his first pair of glasses. The 1819 Gallery (1819 Central, 816-326-8200) presents an exhibition of his work that includes prints and art rugs, which Pitch music blogger Nick Spacek says resemble the works of R. Crumb and Daniel Clowes. The opening reception is at 7 p.m., and Mothersbaugh appears for a live video Q&A.
