Visit the Crossroads galleries on any First Friday, and you’re nearly guaranteed to leave with the makings of a hangover. Free drinks, friends and, of course, art abound. These evenings are meant to be culturally enlightening, but for many of us, it’s all about the party. For art lovers who don’t want that morning-after headache, the Crossroads Community Association has introduced Second Saturdays, monthly field trips designed to entertain and educate. This month’s program kicks off at Mildred’s Coffeehouse (1821 Wyandotte, 816-471-1155). Field trippers will go to the Peruvian Connection for a talk about Peruvian artisan communities and also hear artists speak at the Apex Art Space and the Upstart Crow Gallery. Lamp-glass techniques to create beads will be demonstrated at the Mojo Collection. The afternoon wraps up with a holiday art exhibit at the Arts Incubator. The outing begins at 11 a.m. and costs $10. (Two get in for $15, and kids pay nothing.) Reservations are required; call 913-638-6634 or see kccrossroads.org for more information.
