Family Drama

Before glamorizing teenage pregnancy in Juno, Ellen Page made her feature-film debut in 2002 with a little Canadian indie called Marion Bridge. The film was based on a play of the same name by Daniel MacIvor — the same play now taken on by the Kansas City Actors Theatre in a production at the H&R Block City Stage at Union Station (30 West Pershing Road). Marion Bridge follows the travails of three sisters as they struggle to cope with a dying alcoholic mother. The sisters confront their own troubled pasts and attempt to become a family again. It all sounds grim, but the play has been lauded for its subtle humor. Tickets are $32.50 for adults; call 816-235-6222 or see kcactors.org. The run continues through September 12.—Gavon Laessig
