Fall Out Boy

Judging from some early good buzz — such as a cover feature in Alternative PressFall Out Boy is well on its way to the top of the emo mall-band heap. And why not? The band’s lyrics are tailor-made for teenage bitterness (I wish that I was as invisible as you make me feel), with quasi-disturbing imagery that encapsulates adolescent rage (My pen is the barrel of the gun/Remind me which side you should be on). These Chicago natives are prepping for their big label debut, but Take This to Your Grave and the EP My Heart Will Always Be B-Side to My Tongue — the latter featuring an unfortunate butchering of Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” — demonstrate their commitment to chugging pop-punk edgy enough for Blink-182 fans but sanitized enough for the local Orange Julius.
