Faint Flourishes

Faint Flourishes features works by artists Estrella Payton.
From the artist’s statement:
My work has greatly been about visual growth and movement through organic designs, structures and patterns. My inspiration comes from research and interest in rhizomes, vegetative reproduction and cellular illustrations. The notion of a rhizome is a difficult one to imagine. The structure of a rhizome is dynamic and constantly changing, such that if a portion of the rhizome is broken off at any point, it is still left with the potential for growth. Although printmaking techniques were used to create much of the work, the idea of experiencing something truly unique is very important to the appreciation. Each piece is based upon a “cause-and-effect” type of system to form compositional movement and evolution in design, not only within each piece, but also from piece to piece. Creating a vibration or push and pull within the drawing is often the goal. In my system, there is often tension before transition, while devising a composition. The works are intuitive, experimental, and fun.
