Expanded Canon

In order to better celebrate Black History Month, UMKC Libraries is participating in the 22nd National African American Read In. Traditionally, a read-in consists of folks reading aloud, but because UMKC is the arts campus of the University of Missouri system, it has been expanded to include dramatic and musical interpretations of African-American literature and song. UMKC students, faculty and staff read and perform at 3 p.m. in the brand-new iX Theatre in Miller Nichols Library (800 East 51st Street). The event lasts an hour and a half, though it’s designed for people to come and go as needed. Admission is free, and refreshments are provided. Call 816-235-1526 for more information. — Danny Volin
