Ex-Chief Neil Smith charged with DWI

A Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy claims ex-Chief Neil Smith was driving while intoxicated and failed a field sobriety test.

Smith’s attorney claims Smith wasn’t drunk, and he has several people to back up the claim.

The Kansas City Star reported late last night that Smith was pulled over after allegedly driving 53 in a 65 in a center lane, crossing into the right lane several times and failing to signal lane changes along Interstate 70 just west of the Blue Ridge Cutoff on November 1.

Smith was reportedly wearing a Halloween costume and had to remove his “platform shoes.” Was he dressed up as Gene Simmons?

The deputy gave him a sobriety test, and Smith allegedly swayed. He also taken to the station for more tests and refused to take a breath test.

So now he’s accused of DWI, and his arraignment is scheduled for January 7.
