EVERYTHING’S JAKE

Hailing from Iowa and looking rather like Where’s Waldo? without the cap and scarf, Jake Johannsen arrived on the club scene in the early 1980s with a hesitating delivery and a wryly observant take on everyday life (including one hilarious early tale of profuse bleeding after nicking the edge of his nostril while shaving). Over three decades, Johannsen has remained one of the sharpest wits in stand-up, outgrowing his resemblance to the world’s most famous missing person while racking up late-night appearances (including 34 with Letterman alone) and a CableACE Award nomination for his 1991 HBO special. Tonight at 7, Kansas City will provide the laugh track when he brings his new set to the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway, 816-753-8665) for the live taping of a new one-hour special, tentatively titled Overnight Comeback. Tickets cost $25 (plus those unfunny service charges) through Ticketmaster (816-931-3330).
