Erik Wullschleger, director of LiveKC, discusses getting millennials involved, wanting people kayaking in the Missouri River and more in The Pitch Questionnaire

Name: Erik Wullschleger
Occupation: Director of LiveKC
Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska
Current neighborhood: Waldo!
What I do: Get millennials away from their couches, build advocacy for KC and encourage them to do something to make this city great!
What’s your addiction? Meeting new people in KC.
What’s your game? I love playing disc golf. Not saying I’m great at it, but I just love it.
What’s your drink? Anything with J. Rieger & Co. whiskey in it! (I originally had this in the “addiction” question, but this makes it sound like less of a “problem.”)
Where’s dinner? Does brunch count? I can generally be found walking to the District on Saturday “mornings.”
What’s on your KC postcard? The shot of Union Station during the Fiery Stick Open.
Finish this sentence: “Kansas City got it right when …” They changed whatever law that allowed Bier Station to exist.
“Kansas City screwed up when …” The stadiums and large corporations started moving out of the urban core.
“Kansas City needs …” People kayaking in the Missouri River or generally getting more out of our waterfront.
“In five years, I’ll be …” Doing much of the same on a bigger scale. I don’t have many complaints about life!
“I always laugh at …” The movie Step Brothers with my wife.
“I’ve been known to binge-watch …” Arrested Development.
“I can’t stop listening to …” 90.9 the Bridge and Eight One Sixty.
“I just read …” Orbiting the Giant Hairball.
The best advice I ever got: You’re the average of the five people you spend the most time with.
Worst advice: You should be living in Silicon Valley.
My sidekick: My wife. She’s awesome.
My dating triumph/tragedy: In seventh grade, I moved out of Omaha to a small community about 30 minutes away, and I never told my “girlfriend” at the time that I wouldn’t be seeing her after the summer.
My brush with fame: I invented a recycling bin in the third grade that got a lot of local press … and now 24 years later, I’m in The Pitch!
My 140-character soapbox: If you feel like KC isn’t the community for you, then I question what you’re doing to create community. #DoSomething
What was the last thing you had to apologize for? Forgetting to get a card on Valentine’s Day.
Who’s sorry now? Still me
My recent triumph: I started playing drums again in a small band with my neighbor!
