Eric Greitens and Chris Koster agree: It’s Missouri (not Missourah)

The Democrat and the Republican campaigning to be the next governor of Missouri agree on at least one thing: How to say the name of the state.

Jay Nixon, the current governor, pronounces the state’s name Missourah. In television ads, Democrat Chris Koster and Republican Eric Greitens say Missouri the way a network news anchor would.

Here’s a new ad from Koster that shows the Redford-like candidate’s commitment to fiscal discipline and plaid shirts. He says Missouri at the beginning and end of this 30-second spot:

Greitens, meanwhile, does not use the folksy pronunciation of Missouri in ads that Stephen Colbert has likened to audition tapes for The Expendables film series:
