Edgar J. Palacios, senior director, resource development and community engagement at Connections to Success, talks the streetcar, the school board

Twitter handle: @ejpkc

Hometown: Miami Beach, Florida

Current neighborhood: Lee’s Summit

What I do:
I build relationships and connect people to the resources they need to be successful.

What’s your addiction? Coca–Cola

What’s your game? Monopoly. I always win.

What’s your drink? Vodka press/white Russian

Where’s dinner?
Pierpont’s

What’s on your KC postcard? The view of downtown when headed south on 169 before crossing the Broadway Bridge.

Finish these sentences: “Kansas City got it right with …”
The streetcar. The couple of times I’ve ridden on it, I’ve heard tourists compliment our city and talk about how exciting our future looks.

“Kansas City screwed up when …” Three of the four open seats on the KCPS school board were filled by write-in candidates. Our community needs to do more to prepare people to run for school board office.

“Kansas City needs …” A beach. The only thing that would make KC more perfect is a beach next to an ocean.

“As a kid, I wanted to be …” An architect and a lawyer. Also cool.

“In five years, I’ll be …” Taking my son to kindergarten and daughter to preschool. It’s important to invest in the next generation, especially when they’re your kids.

“I always laugh at …” Sarcasm. Dirty jokes. People falling.

“I’ve been known to binge watch …” The West Wing.

“I can’t stop listening to …” “Me Too” by Meghan Trainor.

“My dream concert lineup is …” Went to the Guns N’ Roses concert a few weeks back. That was a dream made into reality.

“I just read …”
Robert’s Rules of Order. Good governance is always important.

What’s your hidden talent?
Opera

What’s your guiltiest pleasure? Milkshakes. I used to drink them at Pierpont’s before they got rid of their blender.

The best advice I ever got: A rising tide lifts all boats.

Worst advice? Stay silent.

My sidekick? IPhone 6 Plus

What is your spirit animal? Manatee

Who is your hero? My wife, Amanda. She can do no wrong.

What’s your greatest struggle right now? Moving too fast. I’m blessed to be involved in a lot of great things. I need to take time to enjoy it all.

My favorite toy as a child: Hot Wheels

My dating triumph/tragedy?
I met my wife at 18. I married her at 23. We’re still together. I guess my triumph/tragedy is that I have not used Tinder. It could be either, depending on who you ask.

My brush with fame: I once served whiskey to Jon Secada.

My soapbox:
Access. People can make a difference when given the access to the resources they need.

What was the last thing you had to apologize for? Nicknames. Not everyone appreciates them.

My recent triumph: Perfectly backing up a truck to a loading dock. Never thought I could do it.
