Eat This Now: French Toast at Jerry’s Cafe
I am a firm believer that the dining experience begins not when you order your first drink, or when your chips and salsa hit the table, but as soon as you step into the restaurant. The greetings, lighting, music, decor, etc., all factor into your perception before you even touch a menu.
Walking into Jerry’s Cafe brought back memories of visiting my grandparents as a kid. Between the cartoon-style wall art, cozy seating arrangement, and 70s Greatest Hits playing over the radio, I likened it to Grandpa Jerry inviting you into his home for a family meal. The service was great. Though there was only one waiter taking care of the dining room, he did an excellent job of tending to everyone while having a great sense of humor.
I have never been one to turn down a warm invite, and as such I ordered four slices of Jerry’s French toast ($6.99), and a side of bacon ($4.09) as is mandatory in my household.
The powdered sugar was a welcome addition as I was met with an ideal level of sweetness for the slabs of Texas toast before even having to reach for the syrup. At this point, I was already impressed, but adding the syrup was the quintessential finishing touch to complete the dish. The bacon was crispy and produced a solid crunch as audible feedback that it was cooked to perfection.
I entered Jerry’s Cafe around noon with a strong appetite, and this meal held me until late evening for dinner. They also offer the French toast as two slices, which I would recommend if you are looking for a lighter meal.
Jerry’s Cafe will make you feel right at home both with the atmosphere and the great food that tastes as if it was made with love. Check it out for your next breakfast or brunch–you won’t be disappointed.
