East Coast Boogiemen and LawnChair Generals

One of 2003’s most anticipated outings on the underground electronica circuit is the pairing of knob-twisting, wax-spinning, wig-flipping powerhouses East Coast Boogiemen and LawnChair Generals. A tag-team duo of turntable wizards (they use three apiece), the Boogiemen have garnered substantial critical acclaim for their funk-inflected house music, and even more attention for their dance-friendly live sets. LawnChair Generals features respected Seattle-based producers Peter Christianson and Carlos Mendoza, whose 2001 effort The Great Escape caught the ear of glassy-eyed ravers around the world. Beginning with sinewy beats, the Generals gradually ladle more and more sound into the mix — rollicking bass lines, space-age keyboard snippets, chop-suey vocal samples and anything else you can imagine — until its tunes are practically foaming at the mouth.
