Dungen Touring U.S. This Summer

My prayers have finally been answered and Swedish psych-rockers Dungen return to the US this summer to headline a tour with supporters Woods and Kurt Vile, as well as a selection of dates opening up for Fleet Foxes (see tour dates after the jump).

Of course, I should have been more specific in my prayers, because the closest Dungen are coming to our neighborhood is Iowa City on August 10. Now, that’s something like a five or six hour drive, which isn’t too terribly bad for a road trip. Plus, they’re headlining, which means you’d get more than the standard 40 minute opening act set, plus Woods. The only downside is that it’s a Monday, and there’s nothing worthwhile going on in Des Moines or Davenport the night before, so you’re gonna have to work a half-day, drive up there, drive back, and groggily sneak into work late on Tuesday morning if you want to go.

Dungen’s last few records have been a little samey-sounding for my tastes. They’re still spot-on as far as psych rock goes, however. Even though they might have reached the pinnacle of their creativity with Tio Bitar, alongside the Black Angels, they’re probably the best band doing that crazy style right now. Check out the video for Tio Bitar‘s opening track, “Panda,” below.
