Drink wine at the Overland Park Arboretum, pair Boulevard with Pierpont’s, play pickleball and more food events
Tonight, enjoy wine and small plates on the Terrace at the Overland Park Arboretum (8909 West 179th Street), part of the venue’s summer wine-tasting series. Tonight’s tasting features wines from Middle Creek Winery (Louisburg) and snacks from Dean & DeLuca. Tickets are $25. If you are not a Friends of the Arboretum member, an additional $3 park entrance fee is required.
Pierpont’s at Union Station (30 West Pershing Road) is hosting a five-course Boulevard craft-beer dinner tonight featuring beers from the brewery’s Smokestack Series. Enjoy Saison-Brett, Long Strange Tripel, Tank 7, Love Child No. 7 and Rye-on-Rye — Sazerac paired with ancho chili popcorn, ahi tuna crudo, crispy sweetbreads, lamb roulade and smoked maple beignets. Chicken N Pickle (1761 Burlington, North Kansas City) is holding a pickleball tournament and luau tonight. Expect hula dancing, snow cones, a limbo contest, food trucks and, as always, pickleball. The cover charge is $5.
Kurlbaum Farm (6330 Donahoo Road, KCK), best known for the heirloom tomatoes it supplies to restaurants all over the metro, is going full summer with an heirloom-tomato dinner at the farm, with benefits going to Harvesters, Reaching the Nations and Slow Food Kansas City. The dinner includes a cocktail reception, appetizers, salad, prime rib and dessert. Somerset Ridge wines will be available at a cash bar. Tickets are $60. Hank Charcuterie (1900 Massachusetts, Lawrence) is open again, following its scheduled renovation, and celebrating its second anniversary with a Low Country boil. The prize: an appetizer buffet for the winner and 20 friends.
