Drink This Now: Summer Sips at The Little Store on Knox

The Little Store on Knox brings three summer drinks to North KC that caffeinate consumers while capturing the essence of the season. For $6 each, the “Peggy Lee,” “Honey, I Fermented the Berries,” and “The Catton” each focus on different summer staples and offer something for the bitter, cold coffee drinkers to the mellow matcha lovers.

Topped with a strawberry cold foam, the “Peggy Lee” is a rose matcha drink. It is full of floral flavor and the light sweetness from the strawberries balances the sharp matcha. The fruity tang reaches its full potential without being overwhelmed by added sweetness, creating a refreshing, relaxing drink to repel the Midwest heat. Visually, this drink looks like a summer scene with the light pink foam dripping down and blending into the green body of the beverage.
For those who prefer coffee over tea, the next drink is for thee. “Honey, I Fermented the Berries” features a housemade, fermented blueberry honey syrup topped with espresso and oat milk. Even though the berries sit on the bottom, they immediately make themselves known with a fresh, lightly sweet flavor. Once they’ve had their time to shine, the espresso arrives with a woody, rich taste that lingers.
Both of these drinks are available among the preserved flowers, art, ceramics, and products from local Kansas City artists. The store is quite small and Botanical Heirlooms occupies about a third of the interior. With dozens of plants and artwork visible from any direction, this coffee shop fosters a cozy, bright, and joyful atmosphere.
Located one block north of the bustling Armour Road, The Little Store on Knox has the feeling of a friendly neighborhood store that integrates its community in every aspect of the business. There are always posters for local upcoming events, and even with being open for less than six months, it feels like every customer is a friend.
