Drink This Now: Hank American lager

Meet Hank.

Hank is a family name for Eric Flanagan, owner of Crossroads bars King G and Jim’s Alley Bar, and the future Hank’s Garage and Grill in Shawnee. Hank is also the name of a new beer brewed in partnership with Hank’s and Alma Mader Brewing.

Hank (the beer) is relaxed but not uncaring. Hank is nostalgic without being sappy or stuck in old ways. It’s a balanced brew with a slight malt sweetness and mild hoppiness. As my brother, Joel McAdoo, said upon tasting it, “If someone asked, What does beer taste like? I would say, this.”

The crisp American lager comes in a retro-minimalist can design, and my first pairing was with pizza during a Chiefs game in my brother’s basement. I think the symbolic “Hank” would be proud. It also looks damned cool–equally at home in a garage or an Instagram post. Serve it as cold as possible, and be sure to pop on a koozie.

“It pays homage to classic brewing traditions, and at 4.4% ABV, Hank is perfect for those seeking a flavorful yet sessionable craft lager that embodies the spirit of American lager and the hard-working folks that enjoy it,” says Alma Mader Brewing.

Hank is available exclusively at Alma Mader Brewery, Jim’s Alley Bar, King G, and eventually as the house beer at Hank’s Garage and Grill.

Alma Mader Brewing is located at 2635 Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, MO, 64108.

Hank’s Garage and Grill will be located at 5801 Nieman Road, Shawnee, KS with an anticipated opening date later this year.
