Drink and Ride

To all those who complain about Kansas City being backward and who aspire to move somewhere more progressive: Here’s one more event that’s making the metro a little more like a West Coast city.
Portland is where Sarah Gibson, one of the owners of Crossroads-based Acme Bicycle Co., got the idea for Mocktail Hour, a monthly shindig at one of the city’s main thoroughfares to fix bikes and feed the two-wheeling masses. Between 5 and 7 p.m. today, swing by the corner of Broadway and Westport to get that leaky tire or busted chain repaired at no charge while you feast on free grub from Whole Foods Market. Thanks to the enterprising gearheads at Acme and the Kansas City Bicycle Federation, the happy-hour gathering happens on the third Friday of every month, so dust off that Schwinn and declare Bike to the Bar Day.
