So Jeff Rosenstock used to be in the Arrogant Sons of Bitches, who were definitely a third-wave ska band. However, in the years since that band’s breakup, Rosenstock has been stretching the limits of ska-punk and creating music under the aegis of Bomb the Music Industry!.

This new album, the full title of which is Adults!!!… Smart!!! Shithammered!!! And Excited By Nothing!!!!!!! became available from Quote Unquote Records earlier this week. It was recorded over five days, with friends like recent Asian Man Record signee Laura Stevenson.

BTMI manages to create these songs that capture perfectly the sense of getting older, and wanting to do things like “slam beers outside, relieve ourselves on walls” (“All Ages Shows”) even though “As we get older every day feels longer” (“The First Time I Met Sanawon”). The man understands what it’s like to be in that late 20s/early 30s age bracket, wherein you’re trying to balance the desire to have fun and act like you’re still young, yet trying to manage your responsibilities at the same time. Ignore the 4/4 guitar and just download the damn thing.
