The last time I saw Jake Randall, he was being followed by a film crew.

The fledgling fried-pastry entrepreneur had stopped by The Pitch offices to pass out samples of the delicacies he planned to serve when his proposed Doughnut Lounge — a bar, coffee café and doughnut emporium — finally opened. Back in June, he was still shooting for an opening later that summer.

The film crew was on hand to create a video for Randall’s Kickstarter campaign. Moving pictures helped: He raised more than $27,000 for the renovation of the double storefront at 4117 Pennsylvania (the former location of the Imagery clothing store).

The Doughnut Lounge opens to the public on Thursday, December 17.

When The Pitch first reported on Randall’s plans, he told me that his plans included dining-area seating, a full bar and a full-time barista. “We’ll open at  6 a.m. daily,” he said, “and continue to make fresh doughnuts — yeast, cake, old-fashioned filled pastries — until midnight before a 1 a.m. closing time.”

In addition to sweet pastries, Randall says the Doughnut Lounge will feature several savory items, including a biscuits-and-gravy doughnut, a barbecue doughnut, and a mac-and-cheese doughnut. There will also be what Randall calls “that hybrid doughnut” — the pastry that uses croissant dough for the doughnut.
