Doomsday Laughs

Much like the Mad Max movie from which it takes its name, Improv Thunderdome is a chilling vision of a dystopian future in which Tina Turner is a ruthless dictator and everything is powered by pig-shit-derived methane. Wait, no. That’s totally wrong. Improv Thunderdome is a local, nine-team improv tournament happening over the course of the next four months. Three teams — Gorilla Glue; New York City Pigeon Crew; and Danger, Gazelle — take the stage at Westport Coffeehouse (4010 Pennsylvania) at 9 p.m. for the start of the sixth Thunderdome. Each team gets 30 minutes to prove its comedy mettle before the audience decides who survives and who must face the wastelands. Frightening stuff. The competition continues on the second Saturday of every month through October. Tickets cost $10; call 913-375-5168 or e-mail improvthunderdome@gmail.com for reservations.— Danny Volin
