Doc Rock

The popular blog stuffwhitepeoplelike.com lists “free health care” as number 94. Something not listed on stuffwhitepeoplelike.com? Benefit concerts. Tonight, the JayDoc Free Clinic puts on JayRock 4 at the Uptown Theater (3700 Broadway, 816-753-8665), a rock show to raise money to pay for prenatal care, pap smears, HIV screening and other services that the clinic provides during the year. The JayDoc clinic is run by University of Kansas School of Medicine students and is staffed by volunteer physicians and medical residents, who work with and mentor the med students. It’s funded through grants, community donations and fundraisers. On the bill tonight are Harry Trumen, the Republic Tigers and Manhattan-Lawrence power-pop trio Ultimate Fakebook. “If we are playing the Uptown, we might as well be playing Madison Square Garden,” says Fakebook drummer Eric Melin. In other words, expect an ambitious set from these dudes, who are reuniting just for the occasion. The show starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets cost $15.
