DJ Ty Tek

I have no idea what phrunky means. Is it someone who calls people while intoxicated (phone plus drunky)? A fat linguist (phonics plus chunky)? An Egyptian sprinting from Louisville to Lexington (pharaoh plus runs plus Kentucky)? Probably not. But given that Phrunky is the name of the record label founded by DJ Ty Tek, it probably is an attempt to describe the vibe (phat plus funky? Pulsing plus … uh … thrunky?) that Tek creates as one of Denver’s premier DJs. Tek has done his time spinning tech-house, tribal and progressive at clubs such as Tracks 2000, the Church and Vinyl, alongside Moby, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox and Derrick Carter. Tek also scored an invite to the prestigious Winter Music Conference in Florida as part of the Casa Del Soul collective. But of late, Tek is riding high on the strength of his collabo with Little Mike, “The Party Ride.” It’s a ride that we have no doubt can be described only as, yes, phrunky.
