DJ Jazzy Jeff says he was booted off stage at Power & Light for playing hip hop
DJ Jazzy Jeff was supposed to play a free show at the Power & Light District Saturday night, but after a half hour of playing clean, radio edits of popular hip hop songs (we’re told) the folks running P&L shut him down and sent him packing.
Here’s what DJ Jazzy Jeff has been saying about it on his Twitter feed:
- HOW DID THEY KICK ME OFF STAGE IN KANSAS CITY FOR PLAYIN HIP HOP…I’M A 25YR LEGEND…THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT19 minutes ago from web
- I MEAN I WAS PLAYIN SHIT LIKE JUST A FRIEND…ITS A HEINEKEN COMMERCIAL FOR GODS SAKE…AND 3000 PEOPLE WERE ROCKIN…WTF MAN
- SORRY KC…I HAD SOMETHING SPECIAL PLANNED…
- KC LIVE SUCKS…THEY SAID THEY WANTED TOP 40…LOOK AT THE TOP 40 LIST JACKASS
We’ve been reading lots and lots and lots of unhappy Tweets among the people we follow on Twitter. One even wrote that “Cordish had Jazzy Jeff escorted out by the fucking cops because P&L is a ‘family establishment'”
The Power & Light District has struggled with issues of race since it opened. Sounds like those issues are far from resolved.
