Dispatches from the Record Bar

Pitch calendar editor Crystal K. Wiebe spent Saturday and Sunday night at the Record Bar. Here’s her report.

The coolest things I saw at the Record Bar last weekend. By C.K.W.

1. The Back to the Future car parked outside on Saturday. A surefire sign that the Electric Six show would be a hella fun geek convention.

2. The climax of the opening set by the Willowz, during which the – I have to say it – willowy singer climbed up on a drum and stuffed his guitar into the ceiling rafters and then swung from the cable before running off stage.

3. Electric Six frontman Dick Valentine’s joy in mocking his “Overland Park drummer.” Never have cul de sacs, Starbucks and stock portfolios seemed so pertinent to rock and roll.

4. Valentine’s musical proclamation that “infected girls do it better.”
