Dish & Drink KC: Wild Flour Baking Co. and Big Mouth’s Burger Chicken & Fish

I popped into Wild Flour Baking Co. in downtown Parkville to see if it could work as a new laptop-and-meetings kind of spot.
FYI, it can.

It’s cute, relaxed, and spacious enough to post up for a while without feeling like you’re in the way. There’s a full coffee bar, plenty of tea options, and, naturally, a pastry case making it difficult to mind your business.
Since Kansas City’s weather is still doing entirely too much outside, I skipped the hot coffee and ordered an iced herbal jasmine tea ($3.25) with honey. Floral, refreshing, and gone almost immediately.
I also grabbed my daughter one of Wild Flour’s cinnamon rolls, which apparently are a hot commodity. I didn’t get a bite, but there were enough “oohs” and “ahhs” coming from the passenger seat to confirm the hype.
The roll disappeared fast. The smell of cinnamon and sugar in my car did not. That’s how I know they’re doing something right in that kitchen of theirs.

If Big Mouth’s Burger Chicken & Fish isn’t in your neck of the woods, I highly suggest you make your way there soon. That is, if you love some good fried chicken.
Big Mouth’s is a drive-thru spot, and dare I say, I haven’t had wings this good in a while. I ordered the 10-piece chicken wing pack with fries ($10.99), and because everything was made fresh to order, the wait was a little longer than your typical drive-thru run.
Worth it.

The chicken came out piping hot, crisp on the outside and juicy inside, with that well-seasoned crust that makes you eat every piece of meat on the bone. Even better, it somehow stayed hot until nearly an hour later when I finally got the chance to sit down and eat it.
The fries? Fine. Not the best fries I’ve ever had, but when the chicken is doing that much heavy lifting, the fries are really just there for moral support.
