Dish & Drink KC: Girl dinner at Stock Hill and first tastes at The Outsiders Club

Girl dinners are the newest phenomenon sweeping the nation, and the girls are absolutely here for it. What started as a TikTok trend, one woman’s hunger versus the energy required to cook a full meal, has somehow evolved into a full-blown cultural moment. A little snack plate here, a drink there, maybe a fry stolen off someone else’s plate. It’s casual, a little chaotic, and deeply relatable.

And now even classic steakhouses are getting in on the fun.

During a recent visit to Stock Hill, I discovered their take on the viral concept: a polished, steakhouse-style Girl Dinner that brings the bites, sips, and vibes the girls want without sacrificing the restaurant’s upscale edge.

Served only on Thursdays, Girl Dinner ($25) comes with a Caesar salad, triple-cooked fries, and a martini. It’s slightly random, I know, but random combinations are what made the trend famous in the first place.

The martini comes with two options: Dirty or The Basic. For me, a classic martini is always a hit, but their “Basic” martini offers a seasonal twist and is made with Tito’s vodka, allspice dram, pumpkin spice syrup, espresso, and cream. Because I’m a loyalist when it comes to martinis, I stuck with the classic and ordered mine extra dirty. The olive brine practically announced itself before the glass even hit the table. Just the way I like it.

The Caesar salad and fries arrived next, though I’ll admit my attention stayed mostly on the martini and the fries, sipping and snacking between laughs and conversation, the way many catch-up sessions tend to go. I have to say, the triple-cooked fries were exactly what you’d expect from a steakhouse, in a good way. Golden and crisp on the outside with a fluffy, pillowy center.

Stock Hill also allows guests to “level up” their Girl Dinner by adding extra items, and naturally, we took advantage. Our pick was the shrimp cocktail ($8), which arrived with two absolutely massive shrimp perched alongside cocktail sauce. While we weren’t expecting seafood that impressive on what is technically a snack-style meal, we weren’t mad about it either.

All in all, restaurants getting in on the girl dinner trend feels like a top-tier decision.

Kansas City’s coffee and culture scene is about to get a new addition, and if this week’s sneak peek is any indication, The Outsiders Social Club is bringing something special with it.

The soon-to-open concept quietly invited guests in to preview a handful of drinks ahead of its official launch, offering a first look at the menu that will anchor the space. The early verdict? Innovative, high-quality, and genuinely delicious.

During the preview session, guests were able to try one of four drink options, each offered in two styles: matcha-style or latte-style, both built on an oat milk base. The lineup leaned creative while still feeling comforting, with flavors that felt thoughtful rather than overcomplicated.

One standout among guests was The After Supper, made with toasted pecans, dark brown sugar, maple, and vanilla. The drink has a rich, comforting flavor profile that calls to mind a slice of pecan pie.

Another crowd favorite was The Soft Rise, made with wild blueberries and honey and layered with additional flavors inspired by fresh biscuits and jam at the breakfast table. The result is a drink that feels familiar and comforting while still bringing something new to the cup.

Because I can’t have sugar, founder Deejay Nimrod whipped up something special just for me. The custom drink leaned on honey instead of brown sugar and somehow tasted exactly like my mom’s peach cobbler in a cup. After finishing the cup, I decided that I would simply have to plead my case for it to become a permanent menu item.

Still, incredible drinks should come as no surprise. Nimrod brings a culinary background to the project, and it shows in the way flavors are layered and balanced.

While the full menu is still under wraps, the preview offered a promising glimpse of what’s ahead. So, if I were you, I’d keep an eye out for the full menu drop and the official grand opening date.

You’re going to want to try those drinks.
