Dish & Drink KC: Food-first visits to Pitchside Coffee and Oddly Correct
Cafés have always been gathering spaces. But gathering, especially for this remote working girlie, requires more than caffeine. It requires food.
For those of us who pop into coffee shops and end up staying for hours, taking meetings, or simply lingering, that matters. The cafés that recognize this and invest in thoughtful partnerships or curated menus create spaces people can truly settle into. We all benefit from that kind of intention.
And that’s exactly what’s happening at Pitchside Coffee.
Inside the café, you’ll find a pop-up menu from Buck Tui BBQ, one of Kansas City’s favorite restaurants. Instead of relying on generic distributor items, Pitchside chose collaboration. That decision keeps dollars local and elevates the food beyond typical café fare.
I ordered the vegan breakfast burrito ($15.25), and it’s a big one. It’s stuffed to the brim, and the jackfruit inside- that’s the clear standout. Tender, smoky, and well seasoned, just how I like it.
The verde salsa is what really sealed it for me. I started by dipping the burrito, but quickly realized that wasn’t enough to cover the bite the way I wanted. So I switched tactics and began spreading it across each section to make sure that extra punch hit evenly every time. I could have gone for more heat, but the flavor was bold enough that I didn’t feel like anything was missing.
I mean, if you’ve had Buck Tui before, you already know the flavor standard. If you haven’t, consider this your nudge to drop in to Pitchside and taste for yourself.

Since we’re talking about cafés that understand people are going to get hungry, Oddly Correct deserves a spot in the conversation.
I’m already a fan of their coffee. I love that they serve it in glass jars with those Oddly Correct koozies wrapped around them. It’s creative, environmentally conscious, and honestly just cute. It feels like they think through the details. So, I had high expectations for their food.
I decided to try the vegan biscuit sandwich with Beyond sausage and jalapeño artichoke spread ($9.50). No coffee this time, though. Just the sandwich.
First, let’s talk about the biscuit.
It was soft but structured, which matters. Nobody wants a biscuit that collapses halfway through, and vegan biscuits are notorious for that. This one held together while still giving that buttery, crumbly texture you expect. The Beyond sausage brought the savory, slightly peppery bite that anchors a breakfast sandwich. It tasted familiar in a comforting way, but still bold enough to stand up to the biscuit.
The real surprise was the jalapeño artichoke spread. It was creamy and tangy, and while I’m not sure I’d put it on everything, it worked on this biscuit. You can order the sandwich without it, but if heat is your concern, don’t stress. The jalapeño reads more as flavor than fire, at least to my palate. Even someone heat-averse could likely handle it, which feels intentional. Plus, it added just enough complexity to keep the sandwich from feeling one-note, which is a subtle win in my book.
