Dish & Drink KC: A Night out with In Good Company and Addicted

Solo dates have become a kind of ritual for me. A way to recalibrate and be social without performance. Still, it’s rare that a bar makes solitude feel this comfortable. On a Friday night, I walked into In Good Company, a social cocktail lounge on McGee Street, and immediately understood what makes it different.

The space glows with quiet confidence. Think amber lighting, deep leather seating, and the faint hum of music that complements rather than competes with conversation. Every detail, the placement of the candles, the rhythm of the room, feels intentional. It’s a space built for people who value connection over chaos, elegance over excess.

Although In Good Company is a membership-based establishment, day passes are currently available, inviting anyone in to experience its ease and intimacy. The crowd gives grown and sexy. I noticed professionals unwinding after a long week, creatives swapping ideas over cocktails, and strangers becoming fast friends simply because the energy allows it. Truly my kind of scene.

I’m told that during the week, the place comes alive too. They bring in bands and let live music fill the space, adding just enough soul to keep things lively without tipping into party mode. And I mention that because this isn’t a club. It’s, as the In Good Company team says, a third place “for those who have something to lose.” And for Kansas City’s young but mature crowd, that’s exactly what’s been missing.

Aside from the new connections I made and the space itself, the highlight of my night was the Jam Session, a cocktail that instantly earned its name. Made with mezcal, sweet vermouth, Aperol, passionfruit, and orange bitters, it was a slow-burn masterpiece. Smoky, bright, and balanced, with a finish that lingers like the memory of a perfect song.

By the end of the night, I realized something simple but rare: In Good Company is a reminder that nightlife can still feel intentional, intimate, and effortlessly cool. And sometimes, the best nights out are the ones you spend on your own, surrounded by people who came for the same thing—good drinks, good energy, and, of course, good company.

In Good Company is located at 1518 McGee St., Kansas City, MO. 64108.

A new food truck rolled on the scene this year, and I’m high-key obsessed.

Monday night, my friend and I went to The Monarch Bar on the Plaza to catch the Chiefs game, get a little work done, and toss our names into their weekly Louboutin giveaway (yes, designer shoes and football can absolutely coexist).

Outside the bar, a black-and-green food truck with bright neon lights was parked like a late-night dream. The sign said Addicted, and honestly, that’s exactly how it looked. Loud, confident, and ready to ruin my focus. One glance at the menu and I was done for. Wings, loaded fries, and sides called “Side Effects”? Yes, please.

I went for the Wing Hustle ($20): six jerk wings, curly fries, and a strawberry Trap Juice. The wings came out saucy, well seasoned, with a hint of spice. The meat was tender, the heat was right, and I swear those fries deserve their own trophy. Crispy, seasoned, and curly. They hit all the marks.

The Trap Juice was sweet, fruity, and basically summer in a cup. My friend snatched it halfway through, and I didn’t blame her.

By the end, my plate looked like I’d never eaten before. Wiped clean with not one crumb left behind. Addicted definitely earned its name. Now I’m stalking their socials, waiting to see where they pop up next.

Addicted is a food truck. Keep an eye on their website or socials to find them around the city.
