Lidia Bastianich will be on hand tonight at Lidia’s Kansas City (101 West 22nd Street) for a specialty four-course dinner in honor of the release of her new memoir, My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family and Food. The meal will feature dishes noted in the book, including grilled octopus with warm potato salad, a Montasio cheese crisp with broccoli rabe and sausage and beef short ribs braised in red wine, among many other options. At Hogshead Kansas City (4743 Pennsylvania Avenue), they’re teaming up with Union Horse Distilling Co. tonight for a three-course whiskey and cocktail dinner. Learn about the development of Union Horse as you sample the distillery’s wares both in neat and cocktail form. One sample course: Union Horse whiskey-glazed pork belly with patty pan squash and a vidalia onion puree topped with a fried egg, served with a Rolling Standard whiskey sour. Get out for a paella and rosé patio party at Bon Bon in Lawrence (804 Pennsylvania Street). This casual, four-course party includes a Spanish-style four-course meal and wine pairings. Dishes include roasted corn empanadas, seafood pincho, ham and sunchoke croquetas, chorizo and chicken paella and more. Bluestem (900 Westport Road) is hosting a six-course specialty dinner tonight featuring the work of female chefs and sommeliers, which also benefits the charity SAFEHOME. The meal will be prepared by KC talents including Megan Garrelts (bluestem),
Lyndsi Demicco (bluestem), Keara Masson (Rye), Abbey Jo Eans (Happy Gillis), Dina Butterfield (Corvino Supper Club and Tasting Room), Katee McLean (Krokstrom Klubb & Market), Linda Duerr (the Restaurant at 1900), Jessica Armstrong-Brazeal (Novel), Laura Norris (Ragazza), Caitlin Corcoran (Ça Va), and more. Another option is the five-course (including amuse) wine dinner at Pierpont’s (30 West Pershing Road), featuring wines from Orin Swift Cellars out of Napa Valley. The meal includes roasted bone marrow with broiled lobster and grilled peaches and a 28-day dry-aged Kansas City strip with cacao-preserved figs, among other dishes. Former Great American Baking Show contestant J.C. Gregg will be teaching a class on French and Italian macaron basics Saturday at the Olive Tree KC (7044 West 105th Street). The class runs from 1-4 p.m. and includes macarons to take home. Tickets are $55 and can be purchased via the Olive Tree’s website.
Sunday, July 1
Urbana KC street festival is taking over the Power & Light District (14th and Main Streets) today from 4-8 p.m. with the Tacos and Tequila tour. Seven P&L vendors are offering unique tequila cocktails, as well as specialty tacos, for purchase. For example, try the tacos al pastor or tacos de fajitas con pollo with the Cantarito cocktail made with Espolon Reposado tequila from Teocali Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, or the shrimp tacos with a paloma made with Lunazul Anejo tequila from Bristol Seafood Grill. You can purchase tacos and cocktails individually, or you can purchase the Taste Tour card for $25, which entitles the holder to a taco and/or small pour of a cocktail from each of the seven vendors.
