Dillinger Escape Plan

Though it might seem that Mike Patton has enough to keep him busy (Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Tomahawk and his record label, Ipecac), music’s most prolific provocateur still finds time to lend his elastic voice to numerous pet projects. Most recently, the former Faith No More frontman lent his rhythmic yelps, guttural growls and operatic elegance to the Dillinger Escape Plan‘s Irony Is a Dead Scene. That group’s spastic shifts and violent mood swings suit Patton’s talents, especially on a demonic cover of Aphex Twin’s already uneasy “Come to Daddy.” Alas, Patton’s aforementioned insane itinerary won’t allow him to accompany Dillinger Escape Plan on its tour in support of this EP — new hire Greg Puciato handles the grunt work at El Torreon Tuesday night.
