Devonni Benton’s trial for allegedly killing Jasmine Lynn set to begin

Jury selection for the trial of Devonni Benton, the man accused of killing 19-year-old Spellman College student Jasmine Lynn, is scheduled to begin today, just five months after charges were filed, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
Benton, 21, has denied firing the stray bullet that killed Lynn, who was walking home to her dorm room when she was cut down.
Benton’s defense attorney, Jackie Patterson, told the AJC that the shooter was really Benton’s friend.
“This is one of those cases where the wrong person was identified,” Patterson said. “It was his friend, Clarence Carter, who did the shooting.”
Lynn is originally from Kansas City, Missouri.
