Devonni Benton convicted of murder in the death of Jasmine Lynn

A jury convicted 21-year-old Devonni Benton Saturday of murder in the shooting death of 19-year-old Spellman

College student Jasmine Lynn.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Benton was sentenced to life in prison plus 25 years.

Benton had denied firing the stray bullet that struck Lynn in the chest and killed her as she was walking home to her dorm room. Benton’s defense attorney had said the shooter was a friend of Benton’s.

Lynn was originally from Kansas City, Missouri.

Benton’s defense attorney said that his client would likely appeal the verdict.
