Delta Spirit bangs out clamorous tunes dripping with red, white and blue. Hailing from Southern California, the group produces a well-worn, blue-jean sound that marries roots and rock. After scoring a major success with its 2008 debut, Ode to Sunshine, the quintet cut back to a quartet, but its reduction in numbers didn’t mean a reduction in sound. Religious allusions, gritty guitar and forefront percussion all make appearances on its latest release, History From Below. The album rambles down the same dirt road as the band’s previous work but still unearths new gems. And Delta Spirit’s dynamic, ramshackle live show, which includes use of a trash-can lid as a percussive element, should provide something for flannel-wearing souls from all walks of life.
