Deer hunts coming to Kansas City parks — including Swope Park — this fall

Don’t tell Jason Miller, but deer hunts are coming to five Kansas City, Missouri, parks this fall.

Last week, the Kansas City parks board approved hunts in Tiffany Springs Park, Riverfront Park, Hodge Park, Jerry Smith Park

and, for the first time, Swope Park.

Managed hunts have taken place in KCMO’s parks for years. But hunts to cull the deer population in Johnson County’s Shawnee Mission Park became a controversial issue last year.

In KCMO, not so much. Parks board member Meg Conger tells The Pitch that no one objected to the managed hunts at the board’s May 25 meeting.

“We’ve done these in the past, and we’ve never had a problem,” Conger says .
