Dee Evans bows out of KCMO City Council race, endorses Quinton Lucas

Virginia “Dee” Evans suspended her campaign for Kansas City’s 3rd Disrict at-large seat on Friday following the recent and unexpected death of her husband.

Dennis Evans III passed away on March 1.

“Due to recent events in my personal life I am unable to put forth 100% of my time towards those goals at this time,” Evans said in a mid-day announcement. “The goals of the 3rd District remain my priority, and this is the best move towards accomplishing those goals. Additionally I would like to thank those individuals that supported my candidacy by volunteering. We will keep up the work towards a better Kansas City.”

Evans added that she’s throwing her support behind Quinton Lucas, a University of Kansas law professor whose campaign has been received generally well across Kansas City.

“I will always be an active voice for neighborhoods in Kansas City. My priorities are in line with those of Quinton Lucas and I look forward to helping him achieve the goal of making Kansas City a better place to live, work and raise a family,” Evans said.

Others running in the 3rd District at-large are Karmello Coleman, Stephan Gordon, Carol Gatlin and Forestine Beasley.
