Dead Puppets

The delicious creepiness of October will soon be replaced by November’s indifferent chill, so fall’s last hurrah should be spent outdoors. Tonight, snuggle in for a performance of Danza Macabra, a large-scale shadow-puppet performance by artist Mikal Shapiro. Her celebration of death and the dead, now in its seventh year, haunts the grounds next door to the Telephonebooth gallery (3319 Troost) at 7:30 and 8:30 tonight. As in the Saint Saëns classic “Danse Macabre,” Shapiro’s Dia de los Muertos-inspired skeletons will rise from their graves at the beckoning of the devil’s fiddle. Inside the gallery, Shapiro’s solo art exhibit Receipts and Souvenirs kicks off its monthlong run. For more information, call the Telephonebooth at 816-582-9812 or e-mail
