Dazed and Confused

Those craving a heaping helping of before-they-were-stars action can get their fill in Lawrence when Liberty Hall (644 Massachusetts, 785-749-1972) continues its Midnight Movie Madness series with the cult classic Dazed and Confused, featuring early performances by Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich and others. Richard Linklater’s 1993 film is more than a typical coming-of-age comedy. It paddles the viewer on the ass with every syllable of Fred O’Bannion’s vitriol, ripping through a roaring night of teen debauchery without losing sight of the characters’ humanity. This is why Roger Ebert called Dazed “art crossed with anthropology” and Quentin Tarantino included it in his top 12 films of all time that he submitted to 2002’s BFI Sight & Sound Top Ten Poll. Doors open at 11:30 for the midnight showing. Tickets cost $5 and can be purchased starting at 11 a.m. the day of the show at the Liberty Hall box office.
