David Paul Champ homicide: 11-year-old son had ‘no choice’ but to shoot, kill father

The “severely and chronically neglected” 11-year-old Independence boy who shot and killed his father “had no choice” but to pull the trigger.
That’s what a juvenile court officer told a Jackson County Juvenile Court judge on Friday, leading the judge to throw out a second-degree murder charge against the boy who was accused of killing David Paul Champ, the Star reported. No one — including family members — seemed to mind, and it sounds like the boy is going to get some much needed help through the juvenile court system.
