Darryl Forté will be sworn in as Kansas City police chief on Thursday

Just in case you missed it last Friday (and we were super busy, so we didn’t have time to blog it), Deputy Chief Darryl Forté will be dropping the “deputy” in his title. Forté, 49, was named chief of police. He’ll be sworn in at 9 a.m. Thursday at police headquarters.
Forté is a 26-year veteran of the force. He replaces Jim Corwin, who retired last month.
And if you were wondering, Forté is the city’s first African-American chief of police. Most important, what does it mean for violent crime in the city?
The Star reported that Forté plans to move additional police officers and resources into four violent crime “hot spots.” That’s good news in a city that has already amassed 87 homicides this year.
