Dance Dance Revolution

Choreography is visual poetry. The movement is the metaphor, with mood and narrative relayed in the
arc of a raised arm or the speed of a dancer’s leap. The original ballets of the locally based Störling
Dance Theater are renowned for their physical expression of emotion and history. The much-lauded
Störling production Underground, an interpretation of the story of the Underground Railroad, premiered
in 2008 at the Lyric Theatre to rave reviews. At 8 p.m., Störling brings the show back to a metro stage
— Johnson County Community College’s Yardley Hall (12345 College Boulevard, 913-469-4445) —
and a special guest is in town for the performance. As the host of Reading Rainbow, LeVar Burton
introduced a generation to the joy of stories in printed form. As Geordi La Forge, he represented a
futuristic vision of racial harmony on Star Trek: The Next Generation. This evening, Burton mingles
and dines with Underground patrons during pre-show festivities beginning at 5:30. Ticket packages,
which include a chance to ask Burton about his favorite books, run $100 to $200. Tickets to the show
cost $20 to $50. See storlingdance.com.
