‘Cue and Clues
There’s no mystery to barbecue, especially when a master of smoked meat
such as Kansas Citian Ardie Davis explains the techniques of
sauces, rubs and smoking in his various cookbooks. The puzzle in this
case is why Davis — the author of America’s Best BBQ: 100
Recipes From America’s Best Smokehouses, Pits, Shacks, Rib Joints,
Roadhouses, and Restaurants — is signing books from 1 to 3
p.m. today at Mission’s I Love A Mystery Bookstore (6114 Johnson
Drive). This bookstore’s main dish, as it were, is finding clues, not
‘cues. No, Davis has never appeared at the store before. “But Ardie is
a great customer, a friend of the store,” says bookstore employee
Louise Lucas. “He loves mysteries.” No red herrings in that answer
— and possibly no tasty meat samples at the signing: “We don’t
know if we’ll actually serve barbecue,” Lucas says. You can solve that
mystery yourself by calling 913-432-2583.
