Creature Feature is The Pitch’s weekly profile on a local animal looking for adoption. Shelters and support in Kansas City and the surrounding region are often pushed to the breaking point, so picking one future companion to highlight is how we want to put them on your radar. But there are far more than we could ever fit into our pages. Some of the frequent resources and groups we work with—who also have hundreds of other furry friends to flip through—include Great Plains SPCA, Olathe Animal Shelter, The Pet Connection, All Paws & Pals Play and Stay, Pleasant Hill Animal Control, Pawportunities, Wayside Waifs, Midwest Animal Resq, Pawsperity, Wild Souls Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation, Humane Society Pet Food Pantry, KC Action For Animals, and Pet Resource Center of KC. For more resources like these, and for everything that help people with their needs too, check out The Pitch’s Community Resource Guide.

Here’s this week’s Creature Feature:

Rudy is a four-year-old pitbull/mastiff mix who weighs 90 lbs but is such a gentle boy. He loves all other animals—cats, dogs, people. Rudy doesn’t know a stranger. He is housebroken and loves toys and the kiddie pool at the shelter.

Rudy is the longest-term dog at Pleasant Hill Animal Control. He was abandoned along with another dog, puppy, and cat inside of a home for several days. All animals survived, but it has really taken a toll on Rudy. He has some separation anxiety, but who can blame him? Thanks to a generous donation he goes home with a heavy duty kennel for crating. His ideal home would be with someone who might work from home or be a homebody.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Rudy or another pet, please contact Pleasant Hill Animal Control at 816-540-9109 to learn more or meet him. Rudy has been at the shelter far too long.
