Cramming for the Oscars
Can’t decide between Oscar nominees Winter’s Bone and True Grit? Watch ’em again — or for the first time — on the big screen at the AMC Best Picture Showcase, which brings all 10 Academy Award nominees to five metro theaters over two consecutive Saturdays. The first half of the festival starts today at 10 a.m. with Toy Story 3, followed by 127 Hours, The Kids Are All Right, True Grit and The Fighter. Go back next Saturday, February 26, at the same time for Winter’s Bone, Black Swan, Inception, The Social Network and The King’s Speech. Admission for both days is $60 and includes a $20 gift card for the concession stand. Single-day passes are $35 and come with a $10 gift card. See amctheatres.com/bps for locations and showcase schedule. Want to see all 10 nominees at once? The buffest film buffs can plunk down $50 and watch them at AMC Mainstreet’s 24-hour marathon (1400 Main, 816-474-4545), starting at 10 a.m. February 26. The marathon wraps up just hours before the awards ceremony airs live on ABC (which you were going to sleep through, anyway).
