Coyote Bones

If the unspoken mantra of indie rock is to get noticed without getting too noticed, the members of Omaha’s Coyote Bones might be a little too good at what they do. With nothing but some videos on YouTube and a cryptic Web site or two to whet fans’ appetites with a handful of song snippets, the band is practically a ghost. Luckily, that’s all about to change, for two reasons. The first is the music. Lead singer and former Jet by Day frontman David Matysiak’s soft-spoken vocals hover above acoustic guitars and Culture Club-era synths to create an irrepressible Midwestern pop sound with some serious chops. The second is the growing list of famous admirers, including members of Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, Tilly & the Wall, Now It’s Overhead and the Faint — all of whom guest on the band’s upcoming debut, Gentleman on the Rocks. If the Coyotes were any more hip, they probably wouldn’t exist in the first place.
