Cowboy Indian Bear’s ‘Push’ is your Pitch Music Awards song of the day

The Pitch Music Awards Show is at the Uptown Theater this Sunday, August 3, and hosted by World Air Guitar Champion Eric “Mean” Melin and Mills Record Co.’s Judy Mills (tickets here). To count down to the awards ceremony – and help introduce you to this year’s picks – we’re debuting a “song of the day” each weekday until the show from one of this year’s batch of nominees.

Three months ago, Cowboy Indian Bear released its Vandeventer EP, a gem of a record that was born of some rather unfortunate circumstances: a mid-tour van breakdown, which left Cowboy’s five members stranded in St. Louis. The group made the most of its spare time, though, and the Vandeventer EP features quite a varied collection of songs: in addition to the usual electro-pop sugar highs that Cowboy favors, guitarist Marty Hillard showcases his rap skills (listen to “Jacob”). But “Push” is the sleeping star on the EP, as keyboardist Katlyn Conroy’s voice bounces buoyantly around lush synths (sounding eerily like Tennis’ Alaina Moore on this song). Listen to “Push” below, or stream the whole album here
