When the improbably named critic Punch Shaw of the Fort Worth Telegram wrote, “(Cowboy Bill Martin) is apt to remind you of Gary Busey with an edge,” which Gary Busey was he thinking of? Was he comparing Cowboy Bill to a lovable, edgeless puppy named Gary Busey? Or was he talking about batshit insane, terrifying Gary Busey, the product of decades of Hollywood narcissism and multiple vehicular head injuries? Because if so, how did Punch Shaw arrive at the launching point of his analogy, Gary Busey’s alleged edgelessness? The point is, Cowboy Bill Martin is less like the red state comedy hicks of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour and more like this funny guy from Texas. He performs tonight and Friday at 7:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. on Sunday.
