Cordelia
“Tear Me Up” by Cordelia
Comedian Bruce Bruce said Popeyes chicken and biscuits were so good, you’d want to slap your mama. Hailing from exotic Blue Springs, Cordelia brings a catchy, multilayered sound that blends analog instruments and electric beats and samples into a tasty gravy that might have you turning to your mom and being, like, Wap! The band’s low-key lyrics and breakbeat sensibilities are fairly anomalous compared with the local scene, but Cordelia is fine with that. “I like knowing that people are scratching their heads when they hear us,” singer John Knust says. We’ll see who’s scratching (and/or slapping their moms) when this Beck-loving, King Lear-referencing quartet opens for Washington rockers the Lonely H and local power-poppers the Away Team.
